Firework Safety – Monster tip1

PORTFIRE

There are lots of tips, guidelines, and rules for using fireworks safely. One of the ones we hold with highest regard is simply to use a Portfires or Weather proof lighter whenever you light a firework. This reduces the risk of you:  lighting the wrong part; moving your head and body over the top of the firework; and generally fathing around with it. Portfires and weather proof lighters have a solid stable flame no matter rain nor wind. They can make it much easier to position next to the fuse and ignite the buy fireworks. Both these make great sense in typical British weather conditions and especially when you have to get a lot off the ground in a short space of time.

World Firework Illuminations Blackpool

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

As part of Blackpool’s World famous Illumination season firework companies from around the world have been invited to compete against each other in a Pyrotechnic shoot out. There have already been a number of heats with amazing displays from France, Ireland, and China. Not only do they get to show off their techno wizardry but each displays must contain a theme which connects their country of origin. Last night was the turn of the Austrian display team Lukasser Design Fireworks International. Check out the movie of this truly awesome display however, we were slightly disappointed in that the team did not turnup in full traditional outfits or Lederhosen and Bruno was not there as a surprise quest. Next weekend October the 2nd is the Final starring the British Entry and we are very much looking forward to what creative delight the British Team have come up with. May be a new exploding pork pie effect? If you have any suggestions let us know…

sparkling Rainbow mines

Diwali or the festival of lights changes every year depending on the moon. This year its the 17th of October just before Halloween and Bonfire.  Traditionally light diyas made from cotton string wicks inserted in small clay pots filled with oil. Fireworks are a great alternative popular and we have some  great suggestions you may like to try.  You can always call us if you have something in mind you want to create. It doesn’t necessarily need to be expensive if you choose the right stuff. Bengal illuminations are just one example of this and can create colorful dramatic effect for any event. Essentially they are coloured smoke effects that last for a couple of minutes. They come in variety of colour’s but you will need plenty of room. Sparkling Rainbow mines from are very popular as they produce a pillar of colour with an exciting burst at the end. You also get 5 in pack for £10 its good value

large Sparklers

Sparklers are a staple favourite for Bonfire and all other occasions. They look great on a birthday cake and used on bonfire. We stock outdoor and indoor sparklers in various colours but we find the most popular are gold sparklers. They come in all shapes and sizes and you can now buy they in numbers  – perfect for birthday cakes! Sometimes for Halloween you will even seen them stuffed inside the perennial pumkin head. For safety reasons, we find that the shorter sparklers are safer for little ones as they don’t get bored and start playing with them! Always use with a gloved hand though as they get rather hot and remember to supervise little ones as most injuries caused buy fireworks and actually caused by sparklers. Glow stix are a safer option for younger children.

Spooky Fireworks - Orange bombards & Hummers wooohhh!!

This year with Halloween landing on the weekend before Bonfire why not try a “bonfireeen” party. Yes, what a novel idea Bonfire meets Halloween. Why not invite everyone to wear their favourite Halloween costume? Our favourites are Hermen monster and Morticia. For fireworks our favourites are Kimbolton Witches Cauldron  and Fireworks International Spooky Mix and Skeleton Fanfare. Halloween and fireworks are increasingly popular as they add an exciting new dimension to Halloween which has traditionally been an American concept. Adding the traditional guy fawkes to the mix certainly adds some extra sparkle! Make sure you wear a hard hat and not a witches hat and leave the fake witches fingers at home.  You can buy fireworks online as it comes in our Jubilee pack (mixed Packs) and you can see the movie there.

Mammoth display rocket

The change in legislation has meant that this year BIG rockets are only on sale provided they are stored and transported to the customer in a safer way. For our Bristol shop we have installed a special metal cage to store our BIG rockets in…it looks like an ammunition store! With the supermarkets trying to muscle in on every product and service under the sun, the change in the law for BIG rockets is a big blow to the supermarkets who simply cannot compete. If you want a real choice of single ignitions and big rockets then check out mail order fireworks.
