Sky Lantern Festival

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Year 2010 is on the 2/28/2010 (Late because of Leap 5th Lunar Month in 2009)

The Lantern Festival falls on Feb. 28 this Sunday, the fifteen day of the first month in the Chinese Lunar New Year. The Lantern Festival is also known as the Little New Year since it marks the end of the series of celebrations starting from the Chinese New Year.

The moon for this year’s Lantern Festival, on Chinese lunar calendar, will be the biggest of the Year of the Tiger, and will also the fullest moon on Lantern Festival evening since 1957. Buy fireworks buy sky lanterns

During the night of lantern festival, Some people in Taiwan will fly the sky lantern by writing their wishes on the paper lantern and pray their wishes come true. Long time ago, people thought the lantern will fly up to the heaven. The god of heaven will receive their messages and will give them blessing.

Another special event for young people in Taiwan is the Mass Rocket-Firecracker Artillery. People standing in the open square area, surrounding with many rocket-firecracker launchers and waiting for rocket-firecracker to shoot on them. Therefore people will wear helmet, goggles, face mask, rain coat, gloves, long pants and boots to protect their body. They said to hit by the rocket-firecracker will bring good luck to them.

HSBC Sky Lanterns advert

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

“FREE pack of Sky Lanterns! With every new mortgage or ISA” You can see the headline now. I know the adverts been out for some time but as far as adverts go it’s a good advert. Visually it’s really well done and when my mortgage comes up for renewal or whatever financial product they are supposed to be selling I’ll think of that Chinese Bank.
As you would expect the prime time adverts have heightened the public’s awareness of Sky Lanterns and local papers debate over UFO’s sightings has come back down to Earth. Most people seem to love them and think they are a great idea. However, farmers and coast guards don’t. The farmers say they are the equivalent of fly-tipping the country side and kill cows while the coast guard can confuse them with distress signals.

What are your thoughts and what would you suggest? We would love to hear from you.

We reckon… make edible lanterns that burn any other colour than white or red

Aurora Borealis

AURORA

The lucky crew of a West country warship have been treated to the natural spectacular of the Northern Lights during training in the Arctic Circle. The exercise was for cold weather training for 45 Commando. The light show – Aurora Borealis – is caused when solar charged particles get caught in the Earth’s magnetic field and react with other gases in the upper atmosphere. Experts have been reporting that the sun was stirring after a period of low activity. Increased eruptions from the Sun – including solar flares – were expected to make the aurora more frequent event.

But if that’s not frequent enough for you and you don’t want to go to Scotland or Norway then here’s your Answer. Kimbolton have a crackling little number funnily enough called the Aurora Borealis and it’s fantastic. It’s a multi-colour fountain which goes on for ages. It’s category 2  5m so it’s great if your restricted by space and it has some loud whistle noise effects as well. In 2003 it was 3rd in the Fireworks Awards under best category 2 Firework. That year Kimbolton also defended their position as the Best Brand. Since then they won this award for 4 years running despite increasing competition. Let see what happens this year.

This year Absolute Fireworks are a head of the game once again. They are the only company to go out of their way to get feedback from us. At Monster Fireworks we test all of our products before we sale them and we love getting feedback from you good or bad. We pass this back and it’s great to see some of the products actually changing and improving as a result.  One of the best examples are Absolutes Fireworks rockets which were so popular they are now massively expanding the range and including the new flip stick design. This is great new concept which makes it easier for you to store Monster size rockets. The rocket stick simply folds in two making them easier to handle and transport. There are many new technical advancements, product changes and updates coming so this year is going to be very interesting. We’ll keep you posted!

It’s very interesting that London’s China Town community started to evolve after London’s great fire. New development led to the construction of Gerrard Street and Newport Market, which later became Newport Place and Newport Court. These and other streets would many years later house a thriving London Chinatown. The first inhabitants of the fledgling Chinatown mostly comprised of seamen of who for various reasons had stayed on in Britain. Purposefully avoided their next voyage. The presence of this community had a mushrooming effect in which other small enterprises such as Chinese shops and cafes sprang up. During this time the Chinese proved their organisational power by recognising the need to work as one to improve their living standards. 1950 there were approximately 2000 Chinese in Britain. Returning British soldiers from the Far East brought back a taste for Chinese cuisine they had encountered whilst away. This has a knock on effect and lured by the cheap rents and short leases in and around Gerrard Street other Chinese trades began to prosper.

Love Lanterns or Sky Lanterns are perfect for Valentine’s. Write your wishes together and launch them into the heavens. Forget flowers and teddies this Valentines Day, Sky Lanterns will help show the person you love just how much you care. Send romantic messages into the heavens or buy them a big heart to send into the night sky for all to see! buy Sky Lanterns are truly special and will add something really special for all you love birds out there.

We recommend the Thai Lanterns 90cm tall. There are a number of different types even water lanterns which are also worth checking out. Chinese and Thai lanterns come in all different sizes. The Chinese Lanterns are mass produced with the fuel cell moulded on to the cross wires at the bottom, a bit like barbecue lighters. The Thai lanterns are usually hand made with bamboo and a fuel cell you attach your self. Chinese lanterns tend to be cheaper but I have seen the fuel cells drop off which I didn’t like. The Thai ones seem more basic but fly better.

They create a fantastic effect and are defiantly a low noise alternative to buy fireworks.
