The lucky crew of a West country warship have been treated to the natural spectacular of the Northern Lights during training in the Arctic Circle. The exercise was for cold weather training for 45 Commando. The light show – Aurora Borealis – is caused when solar charged particles get caught in the Earth’s magnetic field and react with other gases in the upper atmosphere. Experts have been reporting that the sun was stirring after a period of low activity. Increased eruptions from the Sun – including solar flares – were expected to make the aurora more frequent event.
But if that’s not frequent enough for you and you don’t want to go to Scotland or Norway then here’s your Answer. It’s very interesting that London’s China Town community started to evolve after London’s great fire. New development led to the construction of Gerrard Street and Newport Market, which later became Newport Place and Newport Court. These and other streets would many years later house a thriving London Chinatown. The first inhabitants of the fledgling Chinatown mostly comprised of seamen of who for various reasons had stayed on in Britain. Purposefully avoided their next voyage. The presence of this community had a mushrooming effect in which other small enterprises such as Chinese shops and cafes sprang up. During this time the Chinese proved their organisational power by recognising the need to work as one to improve their living standards. 1950 there were approximately 2000 Chinese in Britain. Returning British soldiers from the Far East brought back a taste for Chinese cuisine they had encountered whilst away. This has a knock on effect and lured by the cheap rents and short leases in and around Gerrard Street other Chinese trades began to prosper.

We recommend the Thai Lanterns 90cm tall. There are a number of different types even water lanterns which are also worth checking out. Chinese and Thai lanterns come in all different sizes. The Chinese Lanterns are mass produced with the fuel cell moulded on to the cross wires at the bottom, a bit like barbecue lighters. The Thai lanterns are usually hand made with bamboo and a fuel cell you attach your self. Chinese lanterns tend to be cheaper but I have seen the fuel cells drop off which I didn’t like. The Thai ones seem more basic but fly better.
They create a fantastic effect and are defiantly a low noise alternative to buy fireworks.
Febuary 14th – Wow! what a weekend Hong Kong for Fireworks and Valentine’s and then pop across to Vancouver for the start of the Winter Olympics. Sounds like an amazing last minute plan but unfortunately for me the only way this is going to happen in reality is virtually!. Oh well may be next year.

Tesco do not sale fireworks at this time of year. We hear they use them as sweetener at Bonfire as part of their seasonal marketing campaign. The idea is to lure the shopper in with cheap or competitively priced seasonal products in order for the shopper to spend money in Tesco. It’s all part of the bigger game that the
supermarkets play Asda, Sainburys, Morrisons Aldi etc. Fireworks in this case are usually
targeted at the lower price end. Storage, sales area/space, and sales staff are set up for primarily selling food, health care
,electrical and booze etc everything but fireworks.
